Griffin jumped on board today and announced the “Slap”, a watch case for the latest iPod Nano.

Why “Slap”?  Well, if you’re old enough to remember – I just barely make the cut – back in the 80s some genius pants came up with a piece of metal/plastic that went from a straight piece of nothing to a bracelet by slapping it over the top of a wrist.  A variety of things could be branded to the toy, but really the novelty was in its ability to transform into a bracelet and then back to a straight piece of nothing metal.  So yup, 30 years later Griffin has shoved that tech into a $24 watch case for the iPod Nano and it comes in a variety of colors (red, purple, black, green, yellow, orange, blue, etc).

Griffin says that the Slap surrounds the iPod Nano in a frame of thick silicone that guards against bumps, and protects the dock connector and volume controls but leaves the headphone port open so you can plug in and listen any time.

From what I remember, eventually the bracelet’s rigidity would wear out and they’d be rendered useless.  Let’s hope for Griffin’s, and their customer’s sake the tech has been updated to survive for years to come, or at least until the iPod Nano in its current iteration is no more.
