In a bid for giving blind people more freedom of movement and some dolphin-like superpowers, the “Supersonic Stick on the Wrist for Blind People” – as it was dubbed by someone with a love for being exhaustive – is hands down one of the coolest and most useful gadgets anyone could make.

It’s basically a handheld sonar that attaches to the wrist and sends and receives supersonic signals, letting the user know if anything is in the way. With the gadget’s instructions being in some long lost Asian language which apparently nobody on the Internet can translate, we don’t have any other details about how it works.

But it would be interesting if it didn’t have just a set distance within which it signals obstacles, but a varying tone or hum, which would let a blind user scan his surroundings constantly and visualize it through interpretation of the sound’s volume.
